Series Title: "Storyteller"

Sunday July 13 - August 3, 2008

Jesus of Nazareth was the greatest teacher the world has ever known. His talent lay in His wonderful ability to make deep, heavenly truths understandable to all kinds of people. Although Jesus worked with people from all social classes, most of His teaching was aimed at the common people of Israel - the shepherds, the fishermen, and the laborers. Most of those who heard Jesus were poorly educated, so it was necessary for Him to teach them by using simple words and ideas. To solve the problem of passing on deep truths to such people, Jesus used a common teaching tool known as a parable. Join us for this four week message series as we seek to imaginatively and memorably retell the parables of Jesus.

Sunday July 13 - Chapter 1: A Love Story
We begin this series with one of the most well-known parables of Jesus, taken from the gospel of Luke. It is the story commonly called “The Good Samaritan.” In the telling, Jesus is asking and probing the question of love to our fellowman, and illustrating His matchless love for us, His creation. He then directs us to “Go and do likewise”; this message will challenge us to do just that!

Sunday, July 20 – Chapter 2: P.S. I Love You
In Luke chapter 11 we find the story of Jesus teaching His disciples to pray. Interestingly, He follows up this teaching with a parable that further illustrates the power of prayer. We invite you to come and be a part of this service that again demonstrates the love of Jesus and His desire to be an active part of our lives.

Sunday, July 27 - Chapter 3: Guess Who's Coming to Dinner?
We all live life with the propensity to look at others with preconceived notions, biases and even prejudices; this is the human condition, which has not changed much since the beginning. In this parable of Jesus, we see how He turns prejudice upside down and in the process gives a powerful lesson on the principle of thanksgiving.

Sunday August 3 - Epilogue: The Turning Point
As this series concludes, we look at one final parable. In Luke chapter eighteen Jesus tells the story of two men praying; one prays from a heart filled with pride, the other from a heart of humility. It is in humility that Jesus teaches us not only to live, but to come to Him in worship. In this special service, Worship & Arts Pastor Gene Garcia will lead us into a time of teaching and worship. You won’t want to miss it!
