Tattoo
March 15 – April 10, 2009
These days, tattoos are all the rage. They are a way to express something about yourself: who you love, what you believe in, social commentary, who you are as a person. But believe it or not, we all are “marked” whether we have ink on our skin or not. In other words, our lives are sending a message to those around us. The question is, what message are you sending? The series, Tattoo will explore the marks of Christianity as we seek to live out our faith in this world.
March 15 - Do you dare?
We all have a tattoo – something that “marks” us to the world. Not necessarily a physical mark, but certainly a spiritual one. Think about it. If you are a follower of Christ, that tattoo should be bold: there should be no question where you stand. But in our culture, sometimes that is easier said than done. God on the left…the World on the right…and most of us are somewhere in the middle. Not black. Or white. Just somewhere in the middle…a blah kind of gray. Is that the kind of mark Christ would have us leave? If you are considering the Christian life, here are some things to think about in regards to the tattoo of Christ.

March 22 - Will it hurt?
Anyone who has actually gotten a tattoo will tell you that there is some pain involved in the process. In other words, there is some sacrifice required to receive the mark. Preparing our lives to receive the markings of Christ requires sacrifice and, often times, pain as well. The pain might come from being really honest with yourself: is your life working; is it really? Others already feel intense pain as they have been marked by the world in ways that keep them from feeling worthy of receiving what God has in store. This preparation step requires us to be honest, not only with ourselves, but also with the artist that longs to mark us with his love.

March 29 - Where Do You Want It?
When you get a tattoo, the ink is on your physical body: your arm, leg, back, etc. Not so with the marking of Christ. It is on your heart. Yet many Christians don’t understand this; they get caught up in the physical: in “doing” to earn good standing with God. The reality is that out "good works" are the result of an inside/out change. This message will clarify where the mark really is – on the heart.

April 5 - Will Anybody See It?
Nobody gets a tattoo in hopes that it will never be seen. But it seems that not everyone who receives the ink of Jesus wants it to be noticed; after all, there might be a cost. As a matter of fact, you can be sure that not everyone is going to be happy with us for taking the mark. Jesus knew full well what it was like to be turned on for who he was as he came to Jerusalem that first Palm Sunday. Join us as we examine the possible repercussions of being a follower of Jesus.
