Build A God
Is there a God? If so, who is he? These questions, and many other like them, have been asked for all time. Our culture is willing and able to answer them – but those answers come in all forms: No, there is no god; if there is, he really doesn’t care about us; of course there’s a god, and he wants us all to be care-free and wealthy! You get the idea. But what does God’s word have to say about this subject? We are beginning 2009 with a message series designed to ask, and answer, these questions. We hope you will join us!
January 4 - "The Wizard"
Is there a god...really? Many people don’t think so, others think that if there is, he must be something like Gandalf from the "Lord of the Rings" trilogy. You know, an old, old, old guy who looks like a wizard. In this message, we will do our best to set the record straight: yes, there is a god...and there is ample evidence that he is real and alive and wants to be known. No better place to start than right here as we begin our "Build A God" series.

January 11 - "The Sheriff"
Today we will discuss what is probably the most common stereotype of God: that he is some kind of sheriff, or maybe a judge, sitting up in the clouds just waiting for us to make a mistake so he can punish us. Sound familiar? Probably so. Especially when we read the Bible, specifically the Old Testament. All of those laws: “thou shalt this” and “thou shalt that”…if there’s that many laws, who could ever be good enough for God anyway? Yes, there is the law…but there is something else as well. Something that is life changing, if you will but experience it. Take a chance and hear this message. You will be glad you did.

January 18 - "The Butler"
It seems like every time we turn on the television, there’s somebody talking about God. And a lot of the talk centers around God’s plan for our lives. That plan includes all “good” things: a life with no stress, no pain, no health issues and a fat wallet. If my life has any of those issues, then there must be something wrong with me! Is any of this true? This message will discuss this movement that has swept across churches all across our country. We invite you to join the conversation!

Seems that most people believe in God. But they also seem to believe that he or she is somewhere in the outer reaches of the cosmos, too busy or too faraway to know who we are or even care. It sure seems that way sometimes. Where is God when we really need him? Kind of like the president: we know he’s out there somewhere, but he’s way too busy to help me! This message will help you look at God, and his interest in you, in a different way.

February 1 - "The Party Animal"
Here’s a take on God that our culture says is correct: he loves us all, thus wants none of us to go to that bad place (wherever and whatever it may be). If we are really on a spiritual journey, no matter what our beliefs, that is good enough. So if that’s the case, then we are all going to end up in the good place…yea!! Unfortunately, this is isn’t what the Bible say, and what it says isn’t very popular, especially in our culture. Is Jesus really the only way? Is God so narrow-minded that he would make it this way? This message is too important to miss, so make it a point to be at Crossroads this Sunday!

We are closing this series with a message that pertains to us all. No matter what we think of God, we tend to put him “in a box.” That even includes us as Christians.
